Juva Santé Laboratories have launched a voluntary recall of several batches of bulk thyme from the Esprit Bio brand, sold throughout France. This measure was taken following the discovery of a content of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) higher than the authorized standards. These substances, produced by certain plants, can cause DNA damage and pose a long-term health risk.
The recall specifically concerns bulk thyme from the Esprit Bio brand, reference 077440, packaged in 60g boxes. This product was distributed in numerous points of sale in France, including Auchan, Cora, Carrefour and Amazon. The batches concerned were marketed between December 3, 2024 and January 16, 2025. For precise identification of the batches, it is recommended to consult the detailed list available on the Juva Santé Laboratories website.
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are toxic substances that can cause liver and kidney damage. In the long term, regular exposure to these substances can increase the risk of developing liver cancer. Although the risks associated with consuming this contaminated thyme have not yet been fully evaluated, it is strongly recommended not to consume it as a precaution.
If you purchased thyme in bulk from the Esprit Bio brand, reference 077440, it is imperative that you no longer consume it. You can return the product to the point of sale where it was purchased for a refund. For any additional questions, you can contact Laboratoires Juva Santé at the following number: 01 47 20 39 56.
