O Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak considered, this Thursday, that the massive attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv aims at the “mass murder of civilians” by Russian forces.
“The real attitude of the Russian Federation towards any format of peace and negotiation is a maximally destructive attempt to attack the great Ukrainian city of Kharkivwith millions of citizens”, begins by referring to the president’s advisor Volodymyr Zelensky in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Russia last week launched a large-scale surprise military offensive in Kharkiv, opening a new front.
These bombings, according to Podolyak, are aimed at “mass murder of civilians in border towns“.
The Ukrainian official highlights that these attacks take place “on the eve of the peace summit in Switzerland”.
“All these talks are just about: either recognizing Russia’s right not to lose and to impunity for war crimes or giving Russia time for an operational pause to prepare for the next (more permissive) phase of the war,” concludes Podolyak .
It should be remembered that Zelensky and other members of the Ukrainian government traveled to Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, today.
The leader stated that “the situation is generally under control”, but “it continues to be extremely difficult”, so Ukrainian troops are currently “reinforcing units”.
Between May 9 and 15, the Russians conquered 257 square kilometers in the Kharkiv region alone, according to an analysis released today by the France Presse agency (AFP) based on data provided by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Emergency services record 8,800 people evacuated in recent days in the region.
