O Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador referred to former US President Donald Trump as a “friend” on Friday, saying he would write a letter to his former counterpart to dissuade him from closing the border between the countries or blaming migrants for bringing drugs into the United States.

“I will prove to you that migrants do not carry drugs into the United States [e que] Closing the border will not solve anything and, in any case, it cannot be done”, said the head of state, quoted by NBC.

The official went further, adding that American car manufacturers and manufacturers “would not last a month with the border closed”, as they depend on an uninterrupted supply of parts and products for their factories on both sides of the border.

Obrador also stressed that Trump “is an intelligent man with vision”, despite the tycoon’s repeated statements regarding his intention to close the border with Mexico.

It should be noted that the outgoing president of Mexico will be replaced by Claudia Sheinbaum, who will take office on October 1.

Trump is leading in the polls for the presidential election, at a time when pressure is growing from Democratic leaders for the current president, Joe Biden, to reevaluate his candidacy.

Still, Biden said in an interview with BET News published Wednesday that he would reconsider his decision to continue campaigning for the November election if a doctor diagnosed him with a serious health problem.

This was the first time Biden has left the door open to the possibility of withdrawing his presidential bid in the face of growing pressure he has faced within his party to do so, to which he has so far responded defiantly.

There are already more than 20 Democratic lawmakers, most of them representatives of the lower house of Congress (House of Representatives), who have publicly requested that the president abandon the electoral race, due to his physical and mental capacity, and give the opportunity to another candidate.

Despite the appeals, Biden’s presidential campaign director assured today that the head of state remains “absolutely” in the race for the White House.
