En statements to the local press, Nomusa Dube-Ncube highlighted that the storm left a “trail of destruction” in the fishing village of Margate, and in eThekwini (formerly Durban), where two injuries were reported.
“It saddens us that so many lives were suddenly affected by the floods that swept these communities with devastating force”, highlighted the South African governor, adding that “the regularity of the floods is a clear sign that, as a coastal province, we are literally in the eye of the storm.”
“We are making every effort in this difficult period, we also share the deep sense of loss with those whose properties and businesses were partially or completely destroyed”, said Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
According to local authorities, floods since Sunday night have caused the destruction of several public infrastructures, including bridges and roads, in Margate, a popular tourist destination in southeastern South Africa.
The South African meteorological service issued a warning predicting the occurrence of more severe storms in that region of the African country’s coast.
