2024 comes to an end with unfortunate news in different parts of the world. As if the number of deaths resulting from some conflicts in several countries were not enough, during the last week different tragedies and air incidents were recorded that, in some cases, claimed hundreds of lives.
In just one day there were four air accidents or emergencies in different parts of the world and, in less than a week, 217 deaths resulting from them were recorded. This situation has classified the 2024 as the deadliest year in aviation since 2018, when there were 15 fatal accidents and a death toll of more than 550.

However, the fact that in just six days nearly 5 air incidents had been recorded around the world arouses the curiosity of thousands of people, even more so, during Christmas dates and at the end of the year in which hundreds of families use this means of transportation to travel.
The effects have been evident. In South Korea alone, the airline Jeju Air, operator of the plane that crashed in this part of the world, has received 67,000 requests to cancel reservations. The fear has been such that, even, on a recent flight of the same company that had to land due to some failures, several people chose not to fly rather than wait for the change of aircraft.
This leads to taking into account what have been the air incidents that were presented during the last week of 2024, among which are some that did not compromise the lives of the passengers who were inside the plane.
How many air incidents occurred during the last week of 2024
There were five plane accidents that occurred during the last week of this year 2024. Of the total, only two accidents caused human loss: the one that occurred in Kazakhstan on December 25 and the most recent, in South Koreafrom last December 29.
1. Plane crash in Kazakhstan
During this plane crash of the Embraer 190 plane Azerbaijan Airlines On December 25, 38 people died and another 29 were injured. Although the causes of the incident are still uncertain, the hypotheses of this catastrophe suggest that the plane had collided with a flock of birds or even that the aircraft had received an anti-aircraft attack.
The president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, maintains that this tragedy was due to the attack by the Russian air defense, since, at that time, Putin’s Army was defending itself from an air attack ordered from Ukraine. For his part, the Russian president has not spoken about this responsibility.
2. Plane crash in Canada
In it Halifax Stanfield International Airportfrom Canada, another air incident occurred on the night of December 28 on a flight that departed from San Juan, Newfoundland. Although there were no injuries, the authorities assure that this worrying event occurred when, at the time of landing, the plane on flight 2259 Air Canadaoperated by PAL Airlines, failed to activate its landing gear.
This led to the aircraft having to skid on the runway, which left some shocking videos on social networks that show how friction led to one of the vehicle’s wings catching fire. The incident caused the closure of the air terminal for several hours.

5. Tragedy in South Korea
Finally, the most shocking event of recent days occurred in the muan international airportin South Korea, on December 29. In this incident, in which the crashed plane did not activate its landing gear and slid down the airport runway until it left it and collided with a wall, 179 people died and only 2 survived.
Among the causes are hypotheses related to mechanical failures of the plane derived from an alleged bird strike, which caused this tragic outcome, considered the most shocking air tragedy in South Korea. The fact, for now, is being investigated by different entities in the Asian country and international organizations.
