O The organization’s office for Palestine confirmed, in a message on the social network and from Al Najar.
“Two field hospitals are operational in the coastal area of Rafah (Al Mawasi), but they are extremely overwhelmed given the scale of needs,” the same source added.
Since Israel began its military operation in Rafah, the border crossing to Egypt, through which much of the humanitarian aid for the enclave passed, has remained closed, while the Kerem Shalom crossing, which connects Gaza to Israel, also to the south, passes through only sporadically some help.
The proximity of fighting and shortages of supplies has forced the closure of several hospitals and clinics in recent weeks, according to organizations including the WHO and Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
In Rafah, almost a million and a half people, most of them displaced from other parts of the Gaza Strip, were crowded together after the start of the war in the enclave, although in recent weeks more than a million have been forced to flee in the face of the expansion of Israeli attacks.
At the same time that the WHO office in Palestine confirmed the closure of the hospital in the Emirates, the Israeli military organization that manages civil affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories announced the opening of a maternity hospital in the city of Deir al Balah, in central Gaza.
An attack by the Islamist group Hamas on Israeli territory, on October 7, 2023, which caused around 1,200 deaths and two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities, triggered a large-scale Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has already provoked more than 36,300 dead, according to Hamas government health authorities.
