Corey Comperatore, 50, has been identified as the fatal victim of the shooting at the Trump rally.
“The Trump rally took the life of my brother, Corey Comperatore. Hatred for one man took the life of the man we loved most,” the victim’s sister said.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro identified Comperatore at a news conference, adding that the victim died protecting his family from the gunman.
The governor also said he spoke with Comperatore’s wife, who asked him to share “that Corey died a hero” who “dived in” to protect his family.
“We lost a Pennsylvanian last night. Corey was an avid supporter of the former president and was very excited to be there last night with him in the community,” Shapiro said.
“He was the father of two daughters, he was a firefighter and he went to church every Sunday; he loved his community and, most importantly, he loved his family,” he added.
On Facebook, the victim’s sister wrote a post, where in addition to the above, she left other considerations. “He was a hero who protected his daughters. His wife and daughters have just experienced the unthinkable and unimaginable. My younger brother has just turned 50 and still had a lot to live for. Hatred has no limits and love has no borders. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews, because this seems like a terrible nightmare, but we know that it is our painful reality”, she wrote.
Donald Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt on Saturday night during a rally in Pennsylvania, which drew widespread condemnation from world leaders.
Shot in the ear, the former president was removed from the stage where his last rally was taking place before the Republican Party convention, where he will officially be nominated as the party’s candidate for the November elections for the White House.
