The Spanish Civil Guard dismantled a criminal network that trafficked cocaine from Colombia hidden in jars of food spicesin an investigation that began when a shipment of 1,800 kilos was intercepted that appeared to contain turmeric, paprika or thyme.
The agents detected the irregular shipment of these food spices at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport from Colombia destined for a merchandise distribution company in Badajoz (west).

The false labeling of the containers containing the spices, with registered trademarks of the South American country, was verified with the aim of giving them a legal appearance, according to a note from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
A first drug detection test gave a positive result. in the existence of cocaine camouflaged among the different condiments seized, for which the person in charge of the commercial company and recipient of the merchandise was arrested, and two of its workers were investigated.
Once the intervened spices were sent to the toxicology laboratory in Seville, it was possible to demonstrate that hidden, mixed and camouflaged among the spices, A total of 42 kilos of cocaine were found, which would represent almost 200,000 doses.
During the investigation, a Madrid resident of Colombian nationality with family ties was also identified. with the person responsible for the shipment in the country of origin.
