A 72-year-old Mexican tourist died on Friday, August 2, 2024, while touring the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture reported in a statement in which it also conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased.

“The Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) Cusco the National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, regrets to report the sensitive death of the Mexican citizen, Blas Luna Gonzales, 72 years old“, the information released indicated.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time (1:30 p.m. GMT) while Luna was touring the monument, and the institution expressed its condolences to his family.
He said that, in compliance with the security protocol activated for visitors to Machu Picchu, the medical staff immediately provided care at the scene and certified the death.
