More than 20,000 people have been affected and three are missing due to the intense rains that hit Honduras due to tropical storm Sara, in the Caribbean, The Secretariat of Risk Management and National Contingencies (Copeco) reported this Friday, November 15.

According to the preliminary report from Copeco, the storm has left 20,552 people affected, divided into 4,198 families, 567 affected, 578 evacuated and 212 sheltered.

The disappearance of three people was recorded in the department of Gracias a Dios, this one, bordering Nicaragua.

The rains, which began to intensify on Thursday, before the storm entered the country, They have also left 37 communities cut off due to the flooding of rivers and streams, and damage to roads and bridges in several communities in the departments of Gracias a Dios, ColĆ³n and AtlĆ”ntida, all in the Caribbean that, along with the Bay Islands, remain in red alert since Thursday.

Four other departments in the north, west and east are on yellow and green alert, surveillance and preventive, due to the phenomenon, which in some regions will leave rainfall of up to 400 millimeters, according to the civil protection agency.

Early this Friday, tropical storm Sara was located 52 kilometers northeast of Trujillo, ColĆ³n, and 115 kilometers southeast of the island of RoatĆ”n, with maximum sustained winds that have reached 80 kilometers per hour, while its speed of westward movement is 15 kilometers per hour.

According to official projections, Sara is expected to maintain a slow movement parallel to the Honduran coast until Saturday afternoon, and on Sunday it will change its trajectory towards the northwest of Belize.

Its slow movement will cause greater rainfall in Honduras and leave much material destruction.
