“A “The Biden/Harris administration did not adequately protect me and I was forced to take a bullet for democracy. It was an honor to do so,” Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social, on the day he fired Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for security failures in the shooting at a July 13 rally in Pennsylvania.

The head of the Secret Service has come under enormous political pressure after admitting to a US congressional committee on Monday that the attempted assassination of Trump was the agency’s “greatest operational failure” in decades.

US President Joe Biden today promised to “get to the bottom” of the investigation into the attempted assassination of Republican Donald Trump, following the resignation of the director of the Secret Service.

“The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13 continues and I look forward to assessing its findings. We all know that what happened that day will never happen again. As we move forward, I wish Kim all the best and we will plan to appoint a new director soon,” the president said in a statement.

Kimberly Cheatle took “full responsibility” for her agency’s security failure and said she was cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the shooting of the Republican presidential candidate while he was attending a November 5 presidential rally in Butler.

The shooter climbed onto a rooftop about 140 meters from the former US president, although outside the security perimeter.

Two minutes before the shooting, witnesses had warned of the suspicious presence of the attacker, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old whose motives are still unknown.

One rally attendee was killed and two others were injured before Crooks was shot dead at the scene by Secret Service.

During Monday’s hearing, Republicans protested Cheatle’s refusal to answer most of their questions, saying there are several ongoing investigations that the Secret Service is working on to shed light on what went wrong in the operation.

The Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Secret Service, announced on Sunday the launch, on the orders of Joe Biden, of an independent investigation into threats against members of both parties, which should be concluded within 45 days.

On Sunday, The Washington Post and The New York Times reported that senior Secret Service officials repeatedly denied requests for more resources and personnel for Donald Trump’s security in the two years leading up to his assassination attempt.

This case comes at a time of great political turmoil in the United States, as a result of Biden’s withdrawal from the race for the White House, announced on Sunday, and his declaration of support for his vice president, who has already declared her candidacy against Trump.
