The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Wednesday the nomination of the Florida senator of Cuban origin Marco Rubio as new Secretary of State for his next government, which will start in the month of January.

Through a statement, the former Republican president confirmed the news that had been circulating for several days, the election of Rubio as the highest representative of American diplomacy, becoming the first Latino to assume the position.
“Marco is a highly respected leader and a very powerful voice for freedom. He will be a strong defender of our nation, a true friend of our allies and a brave warrior who will never surrender to our adversaries,” said the president-elect, who won the elections on November 5.
Rubio, added the text, “will not stop until American politics is once again focused on common sense and the common good.”

After being nominated for the position of Secretary of State of the United States, Senator Marco Rubio said on his X social network that “leading the United States Department of State is an enormous responsibility, and I am honored by the trust that President Trump has deposited in me. “I will work daily to carry out your foreign policy agenda.”
Rubio added that ““Under President Trump’s leadership we will achieve peace through strength and will always put the interests of the American people and the United States above all else.”.
Who is Marco Rubio?
Born in Miami in 1971, Marco Rubio is considered a foreign policy hawk, a supporter of a tough line with China and Iran, and sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
Rubio gained national popularity when he ran in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. in which he faced Trump, among others.
After withdrawing from that contest, Rubio expressed his loyalty to the New York magnate and, from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he had influence on the policy towards Latin America of the first Trump Administration (2017-2021).
Marco Rubio’s He is the third secretary that Trump has announced for his cabinet, after Defense, Pete Hegseth, and Homeland Security, Kristi Noem.
