JThe Republican Party National Convention has already begun in Milwaukee, United States, with former US President Donald Trump officially announced as the party’s candidate for the November elections.
Trump secured the votes of the majority of delegates at the party’s national convention after his son Eric Trump, representing the state of Florida, cast the deciding vote that surpassed the minimum threshold, prompting a standing ovation from those present.
“On behalf of our entire family and on behalf of the 125 delegates from the incredible state of Florida, we nominate the greatest president that ever lived, Donald J. Trump, and declare him the Republican nominee for President of the United States of America,” said Eric Trump.
Minutes earlier, former US President Donald Trump announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his Republican Party vice-presidential candidate for the November 5 elections on the social network Truth Social.
Trump is expected to make a formal speech accepting the party’s nomination on Thursday. The Republican will challenge Democrat Joe Biden in the November 5 presidential election.
The event takes place between this Monday and Thursday, and is strongly marked by the incident that, on Saturday, ended with Donald Trump being injured in the ear and the death of two people – the shooter, aged 20, and a participant who was shot dead while protecting his family.

Despite the attack, the former president’s campaign and members of the Republican National Committee said in a joint statement that Trump will continue to attend the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
According to the organization, over the four days of the Convention, “more than 50,000 guests are expected in Milwaukee, including the delegates who will nominate the next President and Vice President of the United States.”
In practice, the delegates collected during the Republican primary elections in all US states and territories must approve and formally designate the duo that will contest the suffrage, scheduled for November 5.
The Republican tycoon secured the most delegates during the primaries earlier this year, so his nomination in Milwaukee is assured and considered a formality.
Donald Trump arrives at this year’s Convention with the Republican Party united, in stark contrast to his Democratic rivals, who are facing major internal turmoil over the viability of the candidacy of current head of state Joe Biden.
Protest groups will not be allowed inside the security zone established by the secret service around the convention arena, but will try to get as close as possible and attract some media attention.
Principles First, which describes itself as a national grassroots movement of pro-democracy, anti-Trump conservatives, will hold a rally on Wednesday featuring former Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele.
The Democratic National Committee will also hold events in Milwaukee, promising daily press conferences and counter-programming to the Republican National Convention in an attempt to reach voters in a city dominated by Democrats.
