A two-year-old girl was found by US authorities trying to cross the border with Mexico. What has aroused curiosity and indignation is that the minor was alone, without the company of any adult.

Lieutenant Chris Olivarez, spokesman for the southern region of the Texas Department of Security (DPS), identified the girl as Salvadoran, who in her hands had a paper on which a phone number and a name were written.

The uniformed man, in a video that has gone viral on social networks, interviewed the minor and asked her where she was going, to which she responded: ā€œwith my mom and dad,ā€ who, according to her, live in the United States.

The Salvadoran girl was not the only minor who was alone

From his X account, Lieutenant Olivarez reported that ā€œAmong the group were 60 unaccompanied minors between the ages of 2 and 17 and 6 immigrants with special interests from Mali and Angola.ā€

Furthermore, the lieutenant added that ā€œThis is a clear example of the precarious journey that these children make from their country of origin and how criminal organizations traffic these children across the southern border and further into the interior. Regardless of political views, it is unacceptable for any child to be exposed to dangerous criminal trafficking networks. With record numbers of unaccompanied children and hundreds of thousands missing, there is no one to ensure the safety of these children except the men and women who are on the front lines every day.ā€

Finally, the uniformed man said that ā€œdespite criticism over the years, the reality is that many children are exploited and trafficked, and are never heard from again. DPS has rescued more than 900 children during Operation Lone Star from abandonment and human trafficking.ā€

How many children cross the Mexico-United States border?
According to CNN, between January and September 2024, in Maverick County, Texas, more than 16,100 children were found trying to enter the United States without the company of a responsible adult.

In the month of October alone, according to the Federal Government, in the Del RĆo sector, which includes Maverick County, border agents found more than 1,160 unaccompanied minors managing to enter the North American country.
