ROdríguez, also head of the Chavismo campaign command, said that the Public Ministry (MP, Fiscalía) “has to act” to put the two opponents “in jail”, who, he argued, “ordered and paid” criminals “addicted to drugs” to “terrorize” the population.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) gave a controversial victory to Nicolás Maduro.

While Rodríguez was appearing in Parliament, González Urrutia and Machado held a rally with several thousand people in an area of Caracas, where they asked citizens who were demanding the records of Sunday’s vote – which, they claim, will prove that the opposition defeated Maduro by a large margin – to continue demanding to know the truth peacefully.

“González Urrutia is the head of the fascist conspiracy that they are trying to impose in Venezuela,” Rodríguez said during the session of the Chavista-controlled legislature, during which he also pointed to the former ambassador’s campaign team as the “command of the violent action” to “try to sow a civil war” in the country.

He also questioned the results that the majority opposition, grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), claims to have and which, according to this sector, give a “crushing” victory to their candidate.

“In four hours, I can invent 100 million minutes in which 100% of the people on the planet affirm that María Corina Machado is a fascist,” said the AN leader, who described the PUD’s statements as “nonsense.”

Since Monday, there have been multiple protests in Caracas and across much of the country in rejection of the results provided by the CNE, actions that have been met, in some cases, with repression by police and military forces.

The majority opposition describes these demonstrations as “spontaneous and legitimate expressions”, while the Government describes them as “criminal” and “terrorist” and denounces a coup d’état “once again orchestrated” by “fascist factors of the extreme right”.

According to non-governmental organizations, the action of security forces against the demonstrations left at least six dead and 84 injured, while the Public Ministry counts 749 arrests.
