Four people died, including a child, after a helicopter crashed into a communications tower and fall between several homes in the American city of Houston, Texas, local media reported.

The helicopter crash caused a large explosion that brought down the enormous structure, according to the city’s mayor, John Whitmire.

The accident occurred shortly after eight p.m. on Sunday, October 20, causing a large explosion that could be heard at a nearby fire station to the scene, Whitmire told media at a news conference.

A nearby security camera captured the moment of the crash, in which the helicopter was seen flying towards the tower, followed by the crash and the large explosion.

According to Houston Police Chief Noe Díaz, the four people who were aboard the private Robinson R44 helicopter died, whose identities have not been made public. However, Whitmire explained that one of the fatal victims was a minor.

The aircraft had apparently taken off from Ellington Airport, about 27 kilometers south of the site of the plane crash, although the exact point it was heading to is unknown. “This is a tragic event tonight. It is a tragic loss of life,” Diaz said.

Some homes near the crash site were without power, Whitmire said, adding that The explosion could have been much more serious because there was a tank full of butane gas in the area.

Authorities have announced that they will carry out an extensive investigation to find out the causes of the accident in Houston.
