Woman called the police for help and ended up dead at the hands of a uniformed officer

An Illinois police officer has been charged with murder after shooting an African-American woman who had called 911 for help.

The events occurred on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old African-American woman, called police to report the presence of a possible intruder..

For several minutes he spoke with the two officers who arrived at his home in the city of Springfield. But the situation quickly took a turn when The woman approached a pot of water that was on the stove.

Amidst insults, The police officers demanded that Sonya drop the pot and within seconds, one of the officers, identified as Sean Greyson, shot the woman in the head.causing his death.

The video released by authorities also shows that Greyson, who faces three murder charges, dissuaded his partner when he said he was going to get his first aid kit.

The case has sparked outrage. As the investigation continues, President Joe Biden expressed his condolences and called for justice for Sonya’s family from the White House.
