O Republican Donald Trump revealed what Joe Biden told him shortly after the attack he was targeted with on July 13 at a rally in Pennsylvania, which left him injured in the ear.
In an interview broadcast Monday with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Donald Trump recalled the phone call from the 81-year-old president.
“He said, ‘You’re lucky you turned right,'” Trump said, describing his conversation with Biden as a “nice conversation”.
In the interview, which was recorded on Saturday, Trump also revealed that he refused to be carried offstage on a stretcher. “They wanted to put me on a stretcher. They had a stretcher and they wanted to put me on a stretcher. And I said, ‘I’m not going on a stretcher,'” he recalled.
The presidential candidate also said that his right ear is “fine” and “improving a lot”. “We are reducing it to small bandages, but it was a very nasty wound”, he said.
In addition, Trump also met with the director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, who announced her resignation on Tuesday.
“She actually came to see me,” he said. “She was very nice, I think. But, you know, someone should have made sure there was no one on that roof,” he added.
It is recalled that the head of the Secret Service was under enormous political pressure after admitting on Monday before a US Congressional committee that the attempted assassination of Trump was the agency’s “biggest operational failure” in decades.
Joe Biden today promised to “get to the bottom” of the investigation into the attempted assassination, following the director’s resignation.
The shooter climbed onto a rooftop about 140 meters from the former US president, although outside the security perimeter.
Two minutes before the shooting, witnesses had warned of the suspicious presence of the attacker, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old whose motives are still unknown.
One rally attendee was killed and two others were injured before Crooks was shot dead at the scene by Secret Service.
This case comes at a time of great political turmoil in the United States, as a result of Biden’s withdrawal from the race for the White House, announced on Sunday, and his declaration of support for his vice president, who has already declared her candidacy against Trump.
