“We swear to unconditionally defend our national project, following each step to the letter, without complaining.asking for God’s wisdom so that our country is blessed again with another miracle and we swear never to listen to the enemies of the people.”Bukele proclaimed as part of his inauguration speech.
The president, soon to turn 43, assured that “El Salvador has changed forever, our Government has already borne fruit in abundance.”
“The path will soon be irreversible, first God, we have already overcome the most difficult, the most urgent”he said in reference to violence and its combat through a so-called “war against gangs.”
He indicated that it is necessary to “always follow the recipe to the letter” and reiterated the need to “defend the decisions that we will make in the next five years so that we know how to confirm God’s will and ask for wisdom.”
In his speech, Bukele defended his security measures, criticized the opposition and promised to “heal” the economywithout making announcements or touching on other topics, such as a possible constitutional reform.
“Now that we have fixed the most urgent thing, which was security, we are going to focus fully on the important problems, starting with the economy”he stated before hundreds of people, including special guests and followers, from the box of the centenary National Palace, in the heart of the Salvadoran capital.
This second consecutive term for Bukele occurs despite the fact that the Constitution prohibits it and the last president to be re-elected in this way was the dictator and general Maximiliano Hernández Martínez, who governed between 1931 and 1944.
