Before the trial began in April, judge Juan Merchan restricted the former president’s public statements and current candidate for the November 2024 elections about the jury, witnesses and others involved in the case.

On July 11, the judge must define the sentence, which could be prison, as falsifying accounting documents is punishable by up to four years in prison in the state of New York.
