Earlier this week, the Coast Guard revealed that the transcript of the communications log between the Titan and the support ship Polar Prince was completely false, meaning that the five passengers traveling in the submersible, heading towards the wreckage of the Titanic, most likely They had no idea they were about to die.
It is recalled that the incident took the lives of businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
Despite the hope that the crew might be alive, after underwater sounds were detected, the time trial operation had a tragic end after five days, with the location of debris that corresponded to the exterior of the submersible in the area of the Titanic wreckage. .
At the end of June last year, Canadian authorities collected the wreckage of the submersible in the port of St. John’s, in an operation that also had the support of the United States Coast Guard.

It should be noted that James Cameron, the director of the film ‘Titanic’ who designed submarines capable of reaching a depth three times greater than the Titan, considered that the critics of Stockton Rush were correct in denouncing that a carbon fiber and titanium hull would allow microscopic water ingress, leading to progressive vehicle failure over time. However, OceanGate’s CEO believed that carbon fiber would have a better strength-to-buoyancy ratio than titanium.
It should also be noted that, in 2018, an OceanGate employee was fired for having raised concerns about Titan’s quality control, having been accused by the company of breach of contract, fraud and misappropriation of trade secrets. The man refused the accusations and sued the entity, in a case that was resolved out of court.
In 2021, OceanGate assured that the submersible “was built and designed in consultation with specialized engineers and manufacturers”, in addition to including “various safety systems”.
