“A intense phase of the fight against Hamas is about to end. It’s about to end. This does not mean that the war is about to end, but the war in its intense phase is about to end in Rafah,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli Channel 14.
The Israeli Prime Minister added that, after the end of the intense phase, it will be possible to “redistribute some forces to the north”.
“We will do so, mainly for defensive purposes, but also to bring the (displaced) inhabitants back to their homes,” he added.
This was Netanyahu’s first interview with an Israeli television channel since the start of the war against Hamas on October 7.
Netanyahu also indicated that he will not accept any “partial” agreement.
“The objective is to recover the hostages and uproot the Hamas regime in Gaza”, he reinforced.
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip was triggered by the attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which caused around 1,200 deaths and two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
Since then, Tel Aviv has launched an offensive in the Gaza Strip that has so far caused more than 37,000 deaths and more than 85,000 injuries, according to authorities in the Palestinian enclave, controlled by Hamas since 2007.
