PAt least three bombings hit the Meiss el-Jabal area, close to the border with Syria, causing explosions that were heard across much of the Bekaa Valley, according to state media.
ANN indicated that there were no victims of the air attacks, although material damage was recorded in a vehicle belonging to the Civil Protection.
The Bekaa Valley, an important stronghold of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, is far from the common border, where crossfire with Israel is normally concentrated, and had already been the scene of a selective attack two days ago.
Last Saturday, another Israeli aerial attack targeted a vehicle traveling near the town of Khiara, in the same region, where the Israeli Army claimed to have killed both a member of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and one of the Lebanese Sunni group Jamaa al- Islamiya.
At the end of February this year, Israeli aviation bombed the Bekaa Valley for the first time since the beginning of its clashes with Hezbollah, on October 8 last year, and in recent months it has continued to attack the region sporadically.
The crossfire between the parties is being the most serious since the war they fought in 2006 and takes place in the context of the Israeli war against Hamas – of which Hezbollah is an ally – in the Gaza Strip, amid renewed fears that Lebanon will become a second front of the conflict in the Palestinian enclave.
According to Israeli authorities, around 60,000 inhabitants of the north of the country have been displaced for almost eight months; and according to the UN, more than 93,000 residents in southern Lebanon have also been forced to leave their homes since the start of cross-border fighting with Israel in October last year.
In Israel, these attacks left at least 23 dead – 13 soldiers and 10 civilians -, while on the other side of the border more than 415 people were killed: around 300 Hezbollah fighters, 47 members of other militias, a Lebanese soldier and at least 68 civilians, including ten minors and three journalists.
On October 7 last year, Israel declared a war in the Gaza Strip to “eradicate” Hamas, hours after it carried out an attack of unprecedented proportions on Israeli territory, killing 1,194 people, most of them civilians.
Since 2007 in power in Gaza and classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) also took 251 hostages that day, 120 of whom remain in captivity and 41 have died in the meantime, according to the most recent assessment of the Israeli Army.
The war, which today entered its 262nd day and continues to threaten to spread throughout the entire Middle East region, has so far left at least 37,626 dead and 86,098 injured in the Gaza Strip, in addition to around 10,000 missing, most of them civilians. presumably buried in rubble after more than eight months of war, according to updated figures from local authorities.
The conflict has also caused nearly two million people to be displaced, plunging the overpopulated and poor Palestinian enclave into a serious humanitarian crisis, with more than 1.1 million people in a “situation of catastrophic hunger” that is claiming victims – “the highest number ever recorded” by the UN in studies on food security in the world.
