Massive support for opposition in Venezuela, led by Maria Corina Machado

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado gathered thousands of supporters in the state of Táchira (bordering Colombia) on Friday, June 28, at a mass rally in support of the candidacy of former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, one month before the presidential elections.

Machado, who began his tour of several towns in Táchira on Thursday, She ended the day with a caravan of vehicles in San Cristóbal, the capital of the region, followed by a long ride on board a truck from which she greeted the thousands of Venezuelans who lined the streets to watch her pass by.

The EFE news agency confirmed that several streets in the city were packed with people chanting slogans in favor of the former deputy, who was prevented from participating in the elections due to an administrative sanction, so she decided to support González Urrutia as the candidate of the largest anti-Chavez alliance, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

Although the opposition leader made several speeches during Thursday’s activities calling for an end to Chavez’s rule since 1999, Friday’s rally, which was broadcast on her social media profiles, did not include any statements.

During the slow ride of the truck, which was making its way through the crowd, Machado received a video call from González Urrutia, to whom he showed part of the commotion, as well as the greetings and banners of the supporters.
