King Mohamed VI visits the wounded in a Marrakesh hospital. The images

O The Alawite monarch arrived at the center by car, at around 4:30 pm local time (same time in Lisbon), accompanied by a long procession of official and security vehicles.

According to public television Al Oula, which broadcast images of the royal visit, the monarch was accompanied by the Ministers of Interior and Health, Abdeluafu Laftit and Khalid Ait Taleb, and visited two units of the hospital, the resuscitation unit and the recovery unit. , where he was informed about the situation of the injured.

In the images, Mohamed VI is seen talking to six patients, men and women, a teenager and the mother of an injured child, as well as several health professionals.

Later, he appears to donate blood and leave the hospital, in the same way he arrived, by car.

Data from public television indicate that the number of injured people admitted to the different health services in the Marrakesh region was 2,171, of which 484 were in serious condition, with 248 injured people currently hospitalized in these spaces.

This is the second time that Mohammed VI has been seen in public after the earthquake, after having presided over a working meeting on Saturday with civil and military officials, in which he defined the emergency program to assist the victims and rehabilitate damaged buildings and declared three days of official mourning.

Following the earthquake, which occurred on Friday night and which also caused more than 5,500 injuries, Mohamed VI also ordered the urgent mobilization of the army with significant human and logistical resources by air and land, as well as the creation of a hospital military.

In 2004, Morocco suffered a new earthquake in the city of Al Hoceima, in the heart of Rif, which caused hundreds of deaths. The monarch, who was in the first years of his reign, traveled to the region for several days to support the victims.

Friday’s earthquake, whose epicenter was recorded in the town of Ighil, 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh, was felt in Portugal and Spain, reaching a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale, according to the Institute Moroccan National Geophysical Survey – the United States Geological Survey recorded a magnitude of 6.8.

This earthquake is the deadliest in Morocco since the one that destroyed Agadir, on the west coast of the country, on February 29, 1960, causing between 12,000 and 15,000 deaths, a third of the city’s population.
