Justin Trudeau was speaking at the Toronto Metro Hall, alongside the Portuguese head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, during the opening of an exhibition on Portuguese emigration to Canada.
The Canadian Prime Minister, who previously had a meeting followed by lunch with the Portuguese head of state, considered that “Portugal provided important military and political aid to Ukraine” and said that he had “an excellent conversation” with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa about this conflict.
“Both of our countries remain deeply committed to doing whatever it takes, for however long it takes, to stand up to Putin and authoritarianism and support Ukraine,” Trudeau added.
The Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is in Canada on an official visit dedicated to the Portuguese emigrant communities in this country where, according to the 2021 census, close to 450 thousand people of Portuguese origin live.
