FThe last of the five people reported missing was found alive after the fire that killed 13 people in a nightclub area, in the early hours of Sunday, in the Murcia area, in Spain.
The person, whose sex and age were not revealed, was located at 4:30 pm this Monday (local time), and is in good health, according to the Murcia government delegate, Francisco Jiménez, cited by El Periódico.
The same outlet reported that the rescue services are no longer looking for any more survivors and have even abandoned the site, according to El Español.
The number of missing people generated confusion as the work at the site progressed, with some of them being on a beach without a hammock or at a friend’s house, as detailed by the Spanish media.
The spokesperson for the nightclub ‘Teatre’, María Dolores Abellán, assured that the venue held the mandatory municipal operating license, and assured that management is “gathering all the appropriate information” to try to find out what happened.
For his part, the lawyer for the ‘Fonda Milagros’ nightclub, Francisco Adán, said that the fire originated in a box at ‘Teatre’. His client, who had a lease with the site, was unaware that they were operating without a license, having lost all documentation in the flames. Furthermore, he was unaware of the existence of a closure order.
It is recalled that the fire, declared at around 6:00 am, spread to other adjacent establishments. Firefighters managed to put out the flames around 8 am.
The Murcia City Council has already declared three days of mourning.
This is the deadliest fire recorded in Spain at a leisure venue, since the tragedy in 1990 at the ‘Flying’ nightclub, in Zaragoza, where 43 people died.
