EThis Thursday, between 9am and 7pm local time (one hour more than in Lisbon), 100.1 liters of water fell per square meter in the center of Madrid, a record in official records, which date back to 1860, according to the Aemet.

The previous highest value was 87 liters per square meter recorded on September 3, 1972 in Madrid, at the Retiro measuring station, in the city center.

Aemet maintains active warnings due to rain in Madrid until 10pm today (9pm in Lisbon).

The rain – which is the result of Storm Aline hitting the Iberian Peninsula – this Thursday caused floods and other events in several parts of Spain, although there were no reports of injuries or situations considered serious by the authorities.

The floods led to the closure of roads and, in the case of Madrid, also closed some metro stations and there were disruptions to suburban train lines.

Long-distance high-speed train connections are also closed or disrupted and, in the Mediterranean, almost all boat trips between Spain and Morocco have been cancelled.

The wind caused trees to fall across the country and the roof of a pastry shop collapsed in the region of Castilla La Mancha, in central Spain, at a time when there were no people inside the space.

Due to the bad weather, urban parks in Madrid and Toledo were closed and there are records of disruptions to public lighting in cities in Galicia, in northern Spain.
