A This Saturday, the World Health Organization (WHO) carried out a “high-risk reconnaissance mission” at al-Shifa hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, revealed the organization’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who considered that the situation is “unbearable and unjustifiable”.
According to the person responsible, the “team saw a hospital that is no longer able to function: without water, without food, without electricity, without fuel, with medical supplies exhausted“.
“Given this deplorable situation and the condition of many patients, including babies, health professionals requested support to remove patients who can no longer receive vital care in hospital,” he added.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also revealed that the WHO is “working with partners to develop an urgent evacuation plan” and called “for this plan to be fully facilitated”.
“We continue to call for the protection of health and civilians. The current situation is unbearable and unjustifiable”he considered.

It should be noted that the Israeli Army claims that the al-Shifa hospital hides a Hamas command center and is, therefore, a military target. It is also suspected that the Islamist group hid the hostages it kidnapped in Israel on October 7 there.
The hospital has been practically out of service for days due to a power cut and lack of fuel due to the Israeli siege.
