UA pro-Palestine protester was in critical condition this Friday after being set on fire outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta, United States.
According to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum at a press conference, reported by the Associated Press, a security guard who tried to detain him also suffered burns to his wrist and leg.
The protester stood outside the building and used gasoline as an accelerant, leaving him in critical condition, with burns all over his body, said Atlanta Fire Chief Roderick Smith.
A Palestinian flag was found at the scene, which was part of the protest.
Authorities do not believe there is any link to terrorism. Furthermore, none of the consulate employees were in danger, they also said. “We do not see any threat here. We believe that this was an act of extreme political protest”, they stressed.
Police did not disclose the name, age or gender of the protester and highlighted that they had intensified patrols in certain locations, including the consulate in the face of increased tensions in the Jewish and Muslim community.
