A The complaint was made by a spokesman for the Ukrainian military secret services, Andrii Yusov, in statements on television on Thursday night, according to the US agency AP.
Yusov reaffirmed Ukraine’s request for an international investigation into the January 24 crash to determine whether the cargo plane was carrying weapons or passengers along with the crew.
The two countries at war for two years have traded accusations over the accident, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of killing its own men and Ukraine rejecting Moscow’s claims as “unbridled Russian propaganda”.
Kyiv has neither confirmed nor denied that its forces shot down the Il-76, and Russia’s claim that the crash killed Ukrainian prisoners of war could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian authorities said Moscow did not ask for a certain section of airspace to be kept secure for a certain period of time, as has happened in previous prisoner exchanges.
Some Western intelligence assessments suggested the plane was shot down by a missile from Ukraine, although they could not confirm the presence of prisoners of war on board, according to the AP.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov told state news agency RIA Novosti today that the Kremlin (Presidency) had not received any Ukrainian request to hand over the bodies.
Asked whether Russia would be willing to hand them over, Peskov later told journalists that the official investigation was ongoing and that it would be up to Russian law enforcement agencies to consider the request.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia would not only welcome but insist on an international inquiry into the plane crash, which he described as Ukraine’s crime.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian secret services said that some of the prisoners of war who were supposed to be part of an exchange on the day of the plane crash were exchanged on Wednesday, when around 200 Ukrainians returned home.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, the main state criminal investigation agency, said on Thursday it concluded the plane was shot down by the U.S. Patriot air defense system supplied to Kyiv by Western allies.
Russian authorities say there were 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members and three Russian military personnel.
Everyone died when the plane hit the ground and exploded in a gigantic ball of fire in the Russian region of Belgorod, near Ukraine.
The Investigative Committee stated that investigators found more than 670 body fragments and identified all victims of the accident.
The commission said it also recovered 116 fragments of two missiles that were fired from a Patriot system near the village of Lyptsi in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
The committee presented a video that showed some missile fragments in the snow with visible marks that ostensibly proved their origin.
