SAccording to the Sota portal, cited by EFE, the police detained anyone who displayed banners in honor of the opponent who died in prison or criticizing the Kremlin’s role in his death.

The Russian authorities also dispersed people who intended to place bouquets of flowers in that place and forcibly took them through an underground passage, while those present shouted “shame!”, reported the same source.
Hours earlier, OVD-Info, an organization that protects the rights of detained opponents, reported more than a hundred detainees, in different Russian cities, during protest actions against the death in prison of the opposition leader, of which 69 were arrested in São Petersburg, hometown of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Since Friday, police forces and undercover agents have been trying to remove memorials created by Navalny’s supporters, both in monuments to victims of political repression and in improvised locations, such as the bridge where opponent Boris Nemtsov was murdered in 2015, according to information disseminated on social networks.
According to local press, countless people have paid tribute to the opposition leader since Friday, placing flowers or candles in designated places in their cities.
Thousands of Russians in exile took to the streets to protest against what they consider a murder ordered by the Kremlin and today called for more action in European, American and Latin American cities.
Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, one of Vladimir Putin’s main critics, died in prison, according to Russia’s federal penitentiary service.
Navaly, 47 years old, was in a prison in the Arctic, serving a 19-year prison sentence under a “special regime” and, according to those services, he felt unwell after a walk and lost consciousness.
