NIn a message posted on social media, Kyiv says that today “the Russians once again showed their attitude towards international humanitarian law by shooting two Ukrainian prisoners of war.”
The Ukrainian Army also released a short video, in black and white, filmed from a drone, in which a soldier can be seen shooting at two soldiers who are very close to him in the same trench and who offer no resistance.
The agency France Presse, which reports the existence of this video, was unable to verify the authenticity or location of the images.
The Ukrainian Army did not clarify where the incident occurred, simply indicating that it was in the Khortytsia sector, an area that covers the regions of Kharkiv, Luhansk and part of Donetsk, but not the city of Avdiivka, which Russian forces came to control from Saturday.
Telegram channel DeepState, near Kyiv, said earlier in the day that Russian forces had shot and killed six Ukrainian soldiers, and injured two, in a position south of Avdiika, probably on Thursday.
Moscow and Kyiv have made repeated accusations of killing prisoners of war since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
