OThe United States announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine and following the death of the main Russian opponent, Alexei Navalny.

The sanctions will target individuals linked to the prison where Navalny died and to Russia’s war machine, President Joe Biden said, cited by the BBC.

Export restrictions will be imposed on almost 100 companies or individuals, according to the same outlet.

The new measures, Biden said in a statement, “will ensure that Putin pays an even higher price for his aggression abroad and repression at home.”

It is worth noting that the European Union (EU) also reached an agreement today on the 13th package of sanctions against Russia because of the invasion of Ukraine, which imposes restrictions on a further 106 people and 88 organizations, particularly in the defense sector.

The sanctions approved by the 27 member states impose restrictions on 106 people and 88 organizations “responsible for weakening and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence” of Ukraine.
