The researchers were based on morphological and molecular comparisons with other types of plants in the same family.
According to the summary of the scientific article, published on the 14th of this month and available on the magazine’s portal, this new species “resembles ‘Calanthe puberula’, but is distinguished by its intermediate lobe with an elliptical yellow spot near the column base [caule] and four purple veins.”
To date, and according to Efe, ‘Calanthe yingjiangensis’ has only been recorded in areas of low vegetation at an altitude between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above mean sea level, in Yingjiang county, in Yunnan province.
