A Christian Brückner’s adoptive mother revealed that she denied the suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance and that she “no longer has anything to do with him”.
According to The Sun, who spoke to the woman, Brigitte Brückner and her late husband Fritz raised Christian as “one of their own” after he was abandoned when he was little.
However, the widow says she has now cut ties with the 47-year-old man, a convicted rapist and named as the main suspect in Maddie’s disappearance in 2007.
“I have nothing to do with him anymore,” Brigitte Brückner said, according to The Sun, adding that she said goodbye to Christian.
Brueckner was born in Würzburg in 1976 and was placed in a foster home after being abandoned by his biological mother.
Brigitte and her husband took him and his brother in and raised them from the time they were babies. However, Brückner ended up in a home for teenagers after becoming delinquent.
Christian was moved to a church-run home at age 15 and was first convicted two years later of sexually abusing a child.
He was in a juvenile prison for two years before training as a mechanic and moving to the Algarve after his release.
He spent more than two decades moving between Portugal and Germany, doing odd jobs and financing his itinerant lifestyle through robberies and other crimes.
When German police named him as Maddie’s alleged kidnapper in June 2020, her adoptive mother said her life had been “destroyed again”.
Brückner, now 46, is serving a seven-year sentence in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American tourist in the Praia da Luz resort in 2005.
