ABritish authorities believe that more than 500 migrants crossed the English Channel on Wednesday, the highest number of crossings made in a single day this year.
The British Home Office stated that provisional data indicated that 514 migrants and 10 small boats were detected making the crossing on March 20, according to Sky News. The number of crossings is the highest in the month of March, since records began, and the highest daily number since December 2nd.
Until now, the largest number of migrants to cross the English Channel in a single day was 401 people and was recorded on March 4th.
Data recorded by the British authorities indicate that 4,043 migrants have already arrived in the United Kingdom this year. The number is 10% higher than the data recorded at the same time last year (3,683).
In total, in 2023, 29,437 migrants crossed to reach the United Kingdom.
