“We live at a pivotal time for women and girls in the United States and around the world, and those fighting to protect and promote equality urgently need support,” he added.
In July 2021, the foundation released a statement announcing that “if, after two years, either of them decided that they could not continue to work together as co-chairs, Ms. Melinda French Gates would resign from her position”, receiving “personal resources” from Bill Gates for his philanthropy work.
Bill Gates, one of the founders of Microsoft, praised his ex-wife’s “essential contributions” to the organization, which will be renamed the Gates Foundation, and promised to remain “fully involved” in the project.
In addition to Bill Gates’ fortune, the foundation, which in 2023 financed initiatives in 48 North American states and 135 countries, has also been financially supported by American millionaire and businessman Warren Buffet.
