The body of a night watchman was found tied and battered in a hotel in Paris, France, after an attempted robbery of a safe full of cash, a police source reported on Saturday, June 22.
The agents were called around 9:30 p.m. Friday to a street in the city’s 11th district, where, according to the police source, An abandoned safe was found.
Inside a nearby hotel they found the body of the night watchman “lying on his bed, tied up and with multiple bruises”added the source.
A witness reported seeing four men wearing balaclavas attempting to load the safe into a van. around 9:30 p.m., before giving up and fleeing in the vehicle.
The safe “contained the entire monthly income of the hotel”said the police source.
The guard had reported having been attacked about 10 days earlier by several people “who claimed to be deliverymen” who tried to steal the safe.added the police source.
The van used by the men to escape was found abandoned, with the engine running, on the busy roundabout of the Place de la Nation, in the southeast of Paris.
Another witness claimed to have seen four people jump out of the van and take the subway.
Paris prosecutors told AFP they were investigating alleged murders, robberies and illegal confinements.
“An investigation is being carried out to find out the circumstances of this person’s death and the chain of events,” they said.
