O United States President Joe Biden said this Tuesday that there is no indication that the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was the result of an intentional act.
“Everything so far indicates that this was a terrible accident. At this time, we have no other indications. There is no reason to believe that it was an intentional act.”he highlighted, in statements to journalists from the White House, cited by The Guardian.
Biden also considered that he intends for the federal government to assume the entire cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge. “It is my intention that the federal government will pay the entire cost of rebuilding the bridge. I hope Congress supports my effort – this will take some time“, he stressed.
“We will work to ensure the State receives the support it needs. We will not leave until this work is completed. Let us rebuild this port together”Biden added.
The American president also highlighted that the search and rescue operation continues to take place, being the “main priority”.
Asked whether he will visit Baltimore, Biden replied: “Yes, and as soon as I can.”
It is recalled that at around 1:30 am (5:30 am in Lisbon), a ship collided with a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, located in the city of Baltimore, in the east of the United States.
Authorities continue to search for six missing people, two of which have been rescued. One of them is hospitalized in serious condition, while the other did not require treatment.
Work continues to establish exactly how everything happened.
