“VI hereby forgive [os perus] Liberty and Bell. Congratulations, birds,” Biden said after one of the National Thanksgiving turkeys was placed on a table near the President.

The event marks the unofficial start of the holiday season in Washington and also marked the celebration of the 81st birthday of the President, who is already the oldest in the history of the United States.

Age has become an increasing problem for the President, as Biden seeks to be re-elected next year.

The issue has helped Biden’s popularity fall, but it was his stance on the war against Israel and the Islamist group Hamas that took his approval rating to the lowest level of his presidency: 40%.

According to the latest national poll carried out by NBC News, the majority of voters disapprove of his foreign policy regarding the Israel-Hamas war, with Biden having, for the first time, behind former President Donald Trump in voting intentions.

The difference, however, says NBC News, still remains within the poll’s margin of error.

Biden’s drop in popularity is most pronounced among Democrats – the party to which the President belongs -, the majority of whom believe that Israel has gone too far in its military action in Gaza, but also among voters aged 18 to 34 years, with 70% disapproving of his handling of the war.

His birthday was also marked by the arrival at the White House of a Fraser fir tree measuring more than 5.5 meters, which will be the official Christmas tree of the White House and which served as a way for Joe Biden to humorously address the issue of his age.

“This is the 76th anniversary of this tradition. I want you to know that I wasn’t there for the first one,” he joked.

Biden will eat, next Thursday, Thanksgiving Day in the USA, a turkey dinner with his family, to be held on Nantucket, an island in Massachusetts, continuing a long family tradition.

On Sunday, the President and First Lady served an early Thanksgiving meal to hundreds of military personnel at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
