O Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this Tuesday that a direct military conflict between NATO and Russia will be “inevitable” if the West sends troops to Ukraine.

“In this case, it’s not a question of probability, but of inevitability – that’s how we assess it,” Peskov said, when asked about how the Kremlin assesses the likelihood of a direct conflict if Western troops are sent to Ukraine, just as admitted the French president.

Peskov said NATO countries “must also evaluate” the consequences of such actions and be aware of them. They should “ask themselves whether this is in their interests and, more importantly, in the interests of the citizens of their countries,” he declared.

On Monday, at the end of an international conference in support of Ukraine in Paris, Emmanuel Macron stated that sending forces to the country “should not be excluded”, stressing, however, that there is no consensus on the issue between Kyiv’s allies.

In France, the leader of the left-wing France Insubmissa (LFI) party, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, considered President Emmanuel Macron’s statements irresponsible.

Today, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz guaranteed that “no soldiers” will be sent to Ukraine by European or NATO countries.
