FThe body of a third fatal victim was located as a result of the torrential rains that hit several areas of Spain, namely Madrid and Toledo, since Saturday night.
He is a 50-year-old man, whose body was found in Camarena, Toledo, according to various Spanish media, citing the country’s Civil Guard. The man was found at 16:00 (15:00 in mainland Portugal) next to his residence.
Several regions of Spain have been on alert since Saturday night, due to the passage of an “isolated depression at high levels”, known as DANA in Spanish, which has caused chaos in the neighboring country.
This is the third death related to this meteorological phenomenon recorded by the authorities. A 20-year-old young man died, trapped in an elevator, in Casarrubios, also in Toledo, and another man, in Bargas, in the same Spanish town, was found dead inside his car, which was flooded by the precipitation.
The torrential rains, which intensified from Sunday afternoon onwards, have already caused thousands of incidents across the country, especially floods that forced the rescue of dozens of people from cars and houses.
The rain also led to cuts in the circulation of trains and the cancellation of a football match in the Spanish First League, between Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla.
Train circulation has now been re-established on virtually all lines, but there are still disruptions and delays, according to companies operating in Spain and the company responsible for infrastructure (Adif).
The main disruptions to trains occurred in the so-called “Mediterranean corridor”, where circulation stopped on Sunday, affecting connections between cities such as Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante or Seville.
Rail connections between Madrid and several cities were also interrupted and some remain suspended, such as medium and long-distance trains to or from the Spanish capital.
