O Minister of Health, Fahrettin Coca, reported “five deaths and 44 injured, of which 10 seriously”.

The fire area is rural and is located between the cities of Diyarbakir and Mardin, close to the border with Syria.

The villagers of Köksalan, one of the most affected localities, told AFP that they lost around half of their goats and sheep, which they put at around a thousand, whose black corpses were scattered across the charred ground.

Around 13,000 hectares were destroyed by fires in Turkey in 2024, according to the European forest fire information system (Effis).

The fires that are multiplying around the world are associated with various phenomena explained by scientists as the warming of the planet.
