Dand according to the authorities, one of the fatal victims is a man who, in Trappeto, near Palermo, was trying to leave his house, and the other victim is a woman who was trying to free two horses from a burning stable.
Because of the forest fires, more than 700 tourists were forced to leave a hotel, only returning during the night, and, in the north of the island, schools and a university campus were closed.
The fires broke out at a time when Sicily is going through a period of drought and is experiencing temperatures above 35 degrees.
