On March 25, Mexican authorities found five people dead and with signs of violence on the Lagos de Moreno highway, in a municipality in the state of Jalisco (west), known for several massacres and group disappearances in the last year.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office detailed in a statement that the bodies “show signs of violence.” They belong to four men and a woman between 32 and 42 years old.but the cause of death is not known nor are their identities known.
The agency indicated that they located the bodies after a report received at 5:25 am local time, by the Municipal Police of Encarnación de Díaz.
“Investigative police and the agent of the Public Ministry, belonging to the Special Regional Prosecutor’s Office of District III, investigations are being carried out to clarify these facts“said the Prosecutor’s Office in the statement.
The events reflect the wave of violence that is going through the region of Jalisco, where just on March 1 The Prosecutor’s Office reported the murder of seven people in Lagos de Moreno for “apparent gunshot wounds.”
Furthermore, in that municipality five young people disappeared in August 2023, with their whereabouts still unknown despite the national outrage that the case aroused due to a video released in which a murder was committed and the five allegedly appeared.
The state, where the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CNJG) operates, one of the most dangerous in Mexico, ranks sixth in intentional homicides in the countrywith 296 committed in the first two months of the year, out of a total of 2,257 nationwide, according to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).
