Psix months since the escalation of the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reiterated his condemnation of the “barbaric act” committed by the Palestinian militia, while also highlighting that “the deaths and serious injuries of thousands of children in Gaza”, due to Israeli action, “will continue to be a stain on all humanity”.

“The WHO once again condemns this barbaric act of violence and demands the release of the remaining hostages. However, this atrocity does not justify Israel’s horrific bombing, siege and ongoing demolition of the healthcare system in Gaza, killing, injuring and starving hundreds of thousands of civilians, including aid workers. , on the social network X (Twitter), referring, in this last point, to the death of seven members of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization following an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip.

In the view of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “the deaths and serious injuries of thousands of children in Gaza will continue to be a stain on all humanity”, which is why he stressed that “this attack on present and future generations must end”.

“The denial of basic needs – food, fuel, sanitation, shelter, security and healthcare – is inhumane and intolerable,” he added.

He continued: “WHO, together with our health and humanitarian partners, will continue to serve health workers, patients and communities in Gaza. But the continued denial of access means that the population’s needs far exceed any help we have been able to provide to date. The fact that more than 70% of those killed in Gaza are women and children should be a compelling reason to stop the war. We urge all parties to silence their guns. We call for peace. Now.”

After Hamas’ surprise attack on Israeli territory, called ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’, Israel bombed from the air several installations of that armed group in the Gaza Strip, in an operation it called ‘Iron Swords’.

The Israeli Prime Minister declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas, a group considered terrorist by Israel, the United States and the European Union (EU), having agreed with the opposition to create a national emergency government and a war cabinet.
