A The proposal resulted from a meeting held in Paris over the weekend between representatives from the United States, Israel, Qatar and Egypt.

The leader of the Islamist movement, Ismail Haniyeh, who is in Qatar, “confirms that the movement received the proposal that was circulated at the meeting and that Hamas is examining it”, according to a statement cited by the French agency AFP.

Hamas is preparing a response to the proposal, he added.

A senior Hamas official had said on Monday that the extremist group wanted to negotiate a full ceasefire with Israel before any deal.

“We are talking above all about a complete and total ceasefire and not a temporary truce,” said Taher al-Nounou, following the Paris meeting.

Once the fighting stops, “the rest of the details can be discussed”, including the release of the 100 Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza, he added.

The war between Israel and Hamas was triggered by an attack by the extremist group on Israeli soil on October 7, which left around 1,200 dead and two hundred hostages, according to authorities.

The Israeli response caused more than 26,700 deaths in the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas.
