Hamas Islamists want to extend ceasefire and release more hostages

“O Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas is trying to extend the truce after the end of the four-day period, seriously trying to increase the number of detainees released, as established in the humanitarian truce agreement”, the Islamic group announced today on the Telegram platform.

Hamas’ announcement comes after the third day of the ceasefire and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Today, the Islamic group released 14 Israeli and three Thai hostages, who have already been transferred to Israeli territory.

The Israeli prison service announced today, for the third consecutive day, the release of 39 Palestinian security prisoners, all minors, including one resident in the Gaza Strip.

The agreement, which also includes the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, provides for the release of 50 Israeli hostages in total in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners and could be extended if Hamas commits to handing over at least ten hostages per day.

An Egyptian security source told Spanish news agency EFE today that both Hamas and Israel gave “a positive response” to a proposal from Egypt and Qatar to extend the truce in the Gaza Strip, which would involve extending it for another four days. with “the same conditions”.

A source linked to the process, who requested anonymity, said that this proposal “is close to final approval” and stipulates the extension of the truce for four days, during which Hamas would release another 40 Israeli hostages and Israel would release “more prisoners”.

The extension of the ceasefire would also be applied to facilitate the entry of more humanitarian aid and fuel to the entire Gaza Strip, according to the source, who indicated that “all parties confirm their desire to extend the truce”.
