Nthe social network X, Philippe Lazzarini stated that “the Israeli authorities continue to refuse the United Nations humanitarian access” to the Gaza Strip.

“Just this week they refused me to enter Gaza for the second time,” added Lazzarini, who in mid-March had indicated that Israel had banned him from entering the enclave.

On Saturday, the director of the UN World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, said that northern Gaza is experiencing a crisis of “total hunger” that is expanding to the south, where hundreds of thousands of displaced people are taking refuge.

McCain clarified that his words do not constitute an official statement from the organization — something that involves a bureaucratic procedure — but defended this conclusion based on what teams from this United Nations agency observed in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas began about seven months ago, after the commandos of the Palestinian Islamist movement carried out, on October 7, an attack in the south of Israel that caused the death of nearly 1,200 people, in most of them civilians, according to a report by the AFP news agency based on official Israeli data.

According to Israel, more than 250 people were kidnapped and 128 remain in captivity in Gaza, of which 35 have died.

In retaliation, Israel promised to annihilate Hamas and launched a vast offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has already caused more than 34,600 deaths, mostly civilians, according to the Palestinian movement’s Ministry of Health.

The Gaza Health Ministry estimates that around 30 Palestinians, 27 of them children, have died of thirst or hunger since the start of the war against Israel.
